  • Dogs in public places
    • Keep dog under control
    • Make sure dog knows how to return to you
    • Make sure he knows commands
    • Introducing treats/toys around other dogs can cause commotion
    • Always pay attention to what your dog is doing
  • Dogs meeting new people
    • Know whether your dog needs a leash or not
    • Make sure your dog knows how to sit and stay
      • If it's a puppy, make sure they aren't too aggressive, especially with children
    • Petting can work as a reinforcement or reward technique
    • Make sure you can tell when your dog is in a stressed situation
      • Hides tale

      • Slouches ears
      • Confused looks
      • Panting
    • Always give your dog praise when he does something correctly
  • Barking
    • What is causing your dog to bark?
      • Excited? Territorial?
    • Learn your dogs patterns and triggers for barking
    • If your dog barks for attention, don't reward it
      • To go outside, to get our of the kennel, for treats, etc
    • Familiarize your dog with people and other dogs so they aren't initially inclined to bark every time

Tips

  • Leave sick dogs at home
  • Don't bring overly aggressive dogs in public
  • Make sure to clean up after your dog
